This is all over the place.
Blogs are very 2008--which is why I have finally joined the bandwagon here in 2020. I am often late to the bandwagon (see: Bitcoin going to the moon and me joining pretty much right before it normalized). But that's for another day. Today is an introduction.
My name is Sanjeev. Most of my friends call me Sanj. My wife calls me "babe." Yuck. But I love it. There really isn't anything about me that is exceptional. Honestly, unless you are related to me in someway I can't fathom why you would even be here. I wouldn't even want to read my own blog to be fair, but I'm not writing this for any other reason beyond boredom. I'm bored because an accident I was involved in caused be to break off some cartilage in my knee. If that doesn't sound very enticing, it's because it is decidedly not so.
Loose bodies. That's what they call the little pieces of cartilage. They float around the knee wreaking havoc-- causing swelling, audible clicking, pain. Worse, if they aren't removed and the area where the cartilage broke off remains unrepaired- worse knee issues would arise.
The diagnosis: Loose Bodies.
The plan: Microfracture knee surgery. Clean out the loose bodies, drill small holes into the area of lost cartilage to encourage a blood clot to form which will turn into new cartilage (albeit a weaker form).
Six weeks non weight bearing. When my orthopedist first said these words I didn't really digest the seriousness of this. In fact, I think I still am. I think I equated it to like a Christian McCaffrey injury, you know? 6 weeks sucks but I can still win my fantasy league with him. But this is entirely different- this is 6 weeks of absolutely no pressure on that leg-- and then the rehab starts. Things moved quickly and the day before Thanksgiving, a day of merriment and drinking to excess, I had my surgery.
Is Day 1 the day of surgery or is that Day 0? I feel like Day 1 should be the first day after surgery so I'm going to go with that. Honestly, Day 0 (surgery day) was a blur. My leg was numb so there wasn't a lot of pain-- but the amount of drugs they pumped in me made me feel a bit light headed when I was waking up out of anesthesia. I arrived at 6:45 AM and was home by 2PM. Couldn't poop- thanks Oxycontin!
Day 1- Thanksgiving- A routine becomes established- All rugs removed from bathroom- peepee and brush my teeth, work my way downstairs to the couch, elevate and hangout. We decided on ordering Chinese this year, breaking our yearly tradition of making a homemade Thanksgiving meal. We usually like to flex on each other with our cooking skills, but we decided it would be easier to skip it this year. My wife has to make daily trips to the store to stock up on ice for the continuous ice machine, and being the lovely person she is she brought home the basic fixings for a thanksgiving meal. Sure it was tossed together in 30 minutes: dehydrated potatoes and stuffing, a rotisserie chicken, a pie from the supermarket bakery, but it's been my favorite Thanksgiving meal with her because it showed how much she cares for me and how out of the way she will go to take care of me. Still no poop.
Day 2- Black Friday- alot more of the same as yesterday, bought my dog some toys on black friday deals. He's been an absolute trooper through all of this-- definitely testing his patience and curiosity and pushing him to his limit in terms of his "stay" ability. I overcompensated yesterday because I didn't poop and I took 2 colace capsules yesterday. I have been a certified poop monster over the day. Pooping in full leg extension, non weight bearing: not easy.
